*课程简介(Description) | This course is optional for all the non-biological majors of the university. From the beginning of 21th century, life science and technology is playing an increasing important role in social economy and human life, having great change and impact on human’s life and production activity. Also many hot topics were aroused, such as genetically modified food, gene detection, antibiotics abuse, biological energy source and molecular medicine. Undergraduates should get more knowledge and learning of life sciences. This course offers an opportunity for students to know the application and value of biotechnology through lab work and discussion, to understand the changes with the rapid development of life sciences and technology, and to think deeply and discuss the relevant hot topics. The teaching of this course includes knowing antibiotics and making proper use of them, testing genetically modified food and discussing the relevant safety problem, making biodiesel, exploring enzymes in detergent powder, and isolating microorganisms from yogurt. Distinguished from other common lab courses, this course combines the experiments to explore modern biotechnology and discussion about relevant hot topics, and puts emphasis on students’ presentation of their opinion and discussion with other students and teachers. The aim of this course is to broaden students’ vision and expand their scope of knowledge. Meanwhile, the students will get the biological perspective and have the sense of combining and fusing their own major with biology to solve practical matters and needs. |
