The International Military Tribunal for the Far East (the Tokyo Trial), held in May 1946-November 1948, is one of the cornerstone of the East Asian order after the end of the Second World War. However, this event has not been paid enough attention and lack research for a long time. The purpose to open this course is to teach the basic history facts to the students of different majors and guide them to think deeply about the topics on war crimes, war responsibilities and Sino-Japan relationship. The course teaches the Allied power’s idea on the war crimes trial against Japan soon after World War II and the two-and-a-half-year trial of the Tokyo trial in a serious and objective research position. Students also can learn the latest developments in current research in different fields of history, law and international relations. Through displaying historical archives, images, films and other forms on the class, we try to enable students to learn in a more vivid and concrete way.
